It presents Marketing from a high-level strategic perspective and combines various marketing tools into a unified strategy that delivers value to the customer. It focuses on management concepts and examines management principles and functions. The course also evaluates motivation and stress management for effective performance. Its purpose is to provide students with an understanding of how organisations can be managed more effectively while enhancing the quality of employees' work life. The course introduces students to the applicability of microeconomics and macroeconomics in the broad business spectrum.  The course also focuses on decision-making models aligned with general economic conditions. Students are exposed to the concepts of utility maximisation, demand and supply analysis, and their applications; elasticity of demand and supply; theories of production and cost; market structures; theories of macroeconomics; national income accounting and determination; and the effects of monetary and fiscal policies. The course also introduces students to some growth theories to better explain why economies grow. A combination of lectures and practical case analysis shall be used as the delivery mode, while students shall acquire economic skills to advise on managerial decisions affecting businesses.

This course provides an overview of information systems and how they are selected, designed, and managed to provide the information needed to run organisations successfully. It examines various information technologies that support business decision-making. The course stresses the competitive advantage of using IT and the return on investment thereof. It further emphasises the role of information systems in increasing productivity, improving the quality of products and services, and ensuring the overall effectiveness of organisational operations. Information systems risks, security and control issues are also examined. Appropriate software is used to gain hands-on experience, analyse cases, and complete the class project. The course introduces students to various ways in which legal rules, principles, and concepts regulate and affect business transactions and activities in Ghana, and the ramifications of such interfaces for business decisions. It introduces the students to the theory and practice of leadership. The course provides an overview of various philosophical approaches to ethical decision-making and practical applications of ethical principles to problems arising in business.  It equips students with the knowledge to confront ethical issues in contemporary governance and to construct and analyse them from a domestic and global perspective. Topics include the primary ethical Constructs, approaches to self-knowledge, ethical dilemmas in leadership and practical leadership skills.  Students will be able to apply the principles, concepts, and theories of ethics to address ethical dilemmas they may confront in a business career and to engender ethical leadership in decision-making across a wide range of government, business, and personal issues.

This course is designed to introduce the role of the Finance Manager in sourcing and application of funds. And further analyse the company’s cash flows by separating them into cash flows from operating, investing, and financing activities, and examine the methods frequently used for company valuations. It further examines companies' financing and investment decisions, including sources of finance, the cost of capital, and the weighted average cost of capital. The course balances rigorous theoretical content and practical applications. The course further exposes students to the application of empirical and theoretical tools through the class Evaluation of cases and practice problem sets. The strategic management course focuses on the concepts of strategy formulation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) by exploring the functions and nature of general management. Management Accounting builds on the knowledge and skills of Costing Accounting. The course equips students to apply management accounting techniques, both qualitative and quantitative, such as budgeting, standard costing, variance analysis, and the balanced scorecard, while emphasising modern theories of performance measurement and managerial control systems for practical managerial functions, including planning, control, decision-making, and performance evaluation. The course covers decision-making, pricing, transfer pricing, and decentralisation. In particular, the course emphasises modern theories of performance measurement and managerial control systems. The skills acquired will enable students to manage entities' resources professionally and to make managerial accounting decisions in a competitive economic environment.

This course covers research methods in business decision-making. It provides students with a fundamental understanding of statistical theory and applies it to decision-making situations. The course focuses on the application of quantitative and qualitative methods, using examples from accounting, management information systems, finance, human resources, production, services, economics, and marketing, through statistical measurements, regression analysis, and sampling and hypothesis-testing techniques. In addition, the course equips students with essential strategies of undertaking research activities, with a focus on problem identification and choice of research topic; statement of relevant research objectives; formulation of research hypotheses; research design, questionnaire, interview programming; collection of data; organisation and processing of data; presentation and interpretation of estimated data, and report writing.

This course is designed for an in-depth understanding of accounting and financial systems in today’s fast-changing business environment. It provides an understanding of the theories and practices of financial accounting for business decision-making. The course also provides a strong foundation in basic finance, financial analysis, and decision-making. It further examines the use of financial accounting and business finance to raise and utilise funds most cost-effectively. Appropriate class and industry examples are used to analyse cases to get hands-on experience.  Students will be able to appreciate and understand financial statements presentations at various levels of industry and participate meaningfully in evaluations when accounting information is at stake. The course is delivered through presentations and the analysis of different financial statements in class.

This course is designed to cover the conduct of an audit in organisations. Students will gain practical knowledge of the audit of historical financial statements and the issues arising in group audits, and evaluate the various elements of the auditor’s report and other reporting relationships as may be required by the Regulatory Supervisory Body. The course enables students to understand laws and regulations affecting clients and to assess professional and ethical considerations in a particular audit assignment. The course equips students to apply evidence-gathering procedures in accordance with relevant financial reporting and auditing standards.

This course is designed to expose students to audit-related and assurance services. The course addresses the various levels of assurance provided by the auditor, types of audit related services, and the need for assurance services.  It also includes performing review assignments, agreed-upon procedures, compiling reports, and conducting risk assessments. Performance measurement: i.e. benefits of providing assurance on business performance, relevance of traditional financial accounting performance measures and operational measures, the elements of value for money audits, Information system reliability and audit of prospective financial information. It equips students with skills to analyse, evaluate, and conclude on assurance engagements and related audit and assurance issues in line with contemporary best practices. The course combines class discussion of cases with practice problem sets.

The course is designed to cover forensic auditing applications (e.g., Fraud, negligence, insurance claims) and the role of the forensic auditor as an expert witness. It discusses the investigative procedures and evidence appropriate for determining the loss in a given situation. The course also covers the procedures for conducting fraud investigations for a client. Students will be able to analyse the procedures for the form and contents of investigation reports.

It aims to demonstrate the relevance of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the associated Conceptual framework in the preparation and presentation of the Financial Statements of corporate entities. The course familiarises students with the mandate and structure of the International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) as well as the due processes involved in issuing the IFRS. It examines the relevant IFRS for the measurement and recognition of all types of assets, liabilities, and revenues. By integrating diverse teaching methodologies, up-to-date resources, and real-world applications, the course ensures that graduates are well-equipped to contribute to the transparency, accountability, and efficiency of public organisations.

The course provides an in-depth understanding of the public sector environment where politics and management (economics) interplay to produce public administration. The role of accounting in securing public accountability and stewardship for effective corporate governance is examined. It emphasises the relevance of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) in Ghanaian public sector financial management. The course is designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge of the application of the relevant public financial management laws and IPSAS to public financial management and reporting. The accounting practices of the Consolidated Fund, the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), including the District Assembly Common Fund, would be examined. The course also stresses ethical considerations in public financial management.

The course provides an in-depth understanding of the role of tax administrators, application of funds in managing the fiscal space and the implementation of tax policy and directives. It further introduces students to the Ghanaian Taxation System (GTS), the law and concepts that determine taxation liability, and the components of the government’s Fiscal Policy Function (FPF) that influence revenue generation and expenditure. Tax issues also include tax reform and simplification, tax rates and progressivity, tax evasion and avoidance, tax treaties and international cooperation, among others. The course further explores the distribution of income, economic stability and growth. Students will be equipped with skills in tax computation across all sectors of the economy and in advising on tax liability decisions to ensure the continuous operation of the business. Fiscal policy issues discussed, among others, included: public debt management and crisis; fiscal discipline and rules; intergenerational equity and fiscal sustainability; and fiscal risk management and contingent liabilities. The course also stresses ethical considerations in general when considering reporting on taxation and fiscal policy issues.

This course is principally concerned with the nature of risk, human perception of risk, responses to risk, and the costs and benefits. It focuses on creating value for stakeholders through effective risk management. It exposes students to risk drivers in companies and financial institutions, as well as to the use of derivatives to hedge risk. The course covers the mix and level of risk exposures, quantifies earnings-at-risk, value-at-risk and cash flow-at-risk, and makes capital allocation decisions using risk-adjusted metrics. Students will be able to use utility theory, the general nature of insurance contracts, underwriting, reinsurance, and pensions, and their applications. The course combines political, legal, regulatory, and event risks through lectures, case studies, and practice problem sets.

This course is designed to equip students with practical, experiential knowledge, skills, and abilities to exhibit high professional behaviour and etiquette. The course offers final-year students the opportunity to interact with captains of industry (COIs). It explores a particular business case to enable students to engage with and understand various business and industry philosophies, promoting insights into running, sustaining, and improving businesses. The executive skills module of the course aims to train students in hands-on professional and business etiquette, delivered by top industry professionals. At the end of the course, students will be able to internalise and demonstrate insights into successful business and create an avenue for networking with potential employers.

Students shall be required to undertake a research study on a chosen topic in Corporate Governance and write a project. The project would take a maximum of 6 months and total 6 credits. The project work should be between 60 and 100 pages. The font size is 12 Times New Roman. Students are expected to use the APA referencing style.
